How this works & its limits
This tool reports federal campaign-finance figures from public records. It is descriptive, not a judgment of any company or person.
What the numbers mean
Each figure is money contributed to a political committee affiliated with the Democratic party, the Republican party, or neither ("other"). Party here describes the recipient committee, not a donor's personal beliefs.
Federal only
Data comes from the FEC, which covers president, House, Senate, and federal PACs. It does not include state or local contributions.
Two separate buckets — never silently summed
We keep corporate / PAC giving (a company's own federal PAC) apart from individual giving by employees (people who list the company as their employer). These are different kinds of money and aren't directly comparable. The combined figure on each card is just the sum of the labeled buckets that clear our confidence bar — and we always show the breakdown.
Employer fields are messy
Individual contributions are matched on a self-reported, free-text "employer" field. People spell company names inconsistently ("L'Oreal", "Loreal USA", "L Oreal"), so matching is imperfect. That's what the confidence badges are about.
Confidence badges
- High — a confirmed committee or a clean, unambiguous match.
- Medium — a reasonable employer-field match that could include some noise.
- Low — a noisy or ambiguous match (short or common names). De-emphasized and excluded from headline totals — shown only when you expand the breakdown.
Individual giving is not the company's giving
When an employee donates, that's their personal activity as a person who happens to work somewhere. It is not the company contributing. Named-executive giving is intentionally left out of this version.
Every figure is sourced
Each number links to its FEC source. If an entry has no source, it's treated as unverified and is not counted.
This is a curated, hand-verified dataset
A person reviews records before they appear here. It can still be incomplete or out of date — check the "data as of" date at the top.
